Dating to approximately 1895–1910, the piece combines … Read more An elegant turn-of-the-century porcelain centerpiece bowl, hand painted and signed C. M. Button. Dating to approximately 1895–1910, the piece combines a pale celadon-green ground with a subtle pearlescent sheen, stylized fruit and foliage, black enamel detailing, and generous hand-applied gilding.

The broad, shallow bowl is raised on a pedestal foot and framed by dramatic upswept black handles, giving the piece a particularly sculptural silhouette. The flattened botanical decoration, dark linear accents, restrained palette, and lustrous surface place it comfortably within the Art Nouveau period, while retaining elements of the late Aesthetic Movement.

The porcelain itself is unusually fine and appears to be a high-quality commercial decorating blank of the type used by accomplished china painters around the turn of the 20th century. No factory mark is present. A French/Limoges or German/Bavarian origin is possible, but the blank remains unidentified, so no factory attribution is being made.
Signed “C. M. Button” on the underside.
