This vintage sculpture is hand-formed entirely from slender iron wire, capturing the silhouette of an early biplane with a central fuselage, scalloped double wings, and a smaller rear tail assembly. The main wings arch gracefully outward from the fuselage spine, their leading and trailing edges connected by a repeating scalloped, wave-like pattern that gives the structure both visual rhythm and open, airy lightness. A smaller matching wing structure forms the tail section, mirroring the scalloped motif at a reduced scale and echoing the proportions of a real aircraft's stabilizers. At the top, a simple two-bladed propeller is mounted on a small circular disc, completing the nose of the plane with a touch of mechanical whimsy. The wire throughout carries a consistent blue-green patina with subtle surface oxidation, giving the piece an aged, weathered character that enhances its handcrafted, folk-art charm. Every joint and curve appears carefully formed, with the wirework's open, skeletal construction allowing light to pass through and casting delicate shadow patterns when displayed.
Display this sculpture on a shelf, desk, or windowsill as a whimsical aviation-themed accent, or incorporate it into a collection of vintage transportation memorabilia. Its airy wirework and nostalgic subject suit Industrial, Coastal, Eclectic, Vintage Americana, and Boho interiors. The sculpture measures 7¾ inches wide, 9¼ inches deep, and 3¼ inches high. Dust gently with a soft, dry brush to reach the fine wirework, and avoid handling by the delicate wings or propeller to prevent bending. The piece is in good condition, with a consistent patina and minor surface oxidation typical of age; no significant structural damage or repairs are visible, and the sculpture is stable and retains its original form.
