Exceptional pair of vintage Carpathian elm burl and brass floating nightstands confidently attributed to William Doezema for Mastercraft, circa 1960s.
These striking cabinets feature richly figured burl veneers with dramatic swirling grain patterns and a warm, glossy finish. Each cabinet is visually suspended within an architectural tubular brass frame, creating the distinctive floating profile strongly associated with this Mastercraft design.
The fronts are fitted with oversized cast-brass drop pulls mounted on substantial rectangular backplates, giving the pair a bold sculptural presence. Double doors open to reveal generous interior storage with removable shelving, making these pieces equally well suited for use as nightstands, end tables, or compact storage cabinets.
The contrast between the highly figured burl wood, clean architectural lines, and aged brass gives the pair a sophisticated Mid-Century Modern look with strong Hollywood Regency influence.
No manufacturer’s label is present. However, the pair is confidently attributed to William Doezema for Mastercraft based on the distinctive design, dimensions, construction, brass framework, hardware, and close correspondence to documented Mastercraft examples of this model.
