Bring an organic, sculptural presence and a deep sense of history into your home with this exceptional pair-sized 19th-century primitive hand-hewn wood dough trough.
Measuring a substantial 27" Long x 16" Wide x 6" High, this elongated basin was meticulously hollowed from a single massive block of solid hardwood. The rugged form beautifully showcases original artisan tool marks and rich wood grain checking. A true testament to historic utility, resourcefulness, and folk art charm, this piece features extensive blacksmith "make-do" iron repairs and a prominent metal patch which boasts incredible age and adds immense visual interest.
A heavy, hand-forged iron structural band wraps securely around the left end, while the opposite lower corner is structurally reinforced with a thick, beautifully aged sheet-metal patch. Far from detracting from the piece, these authentic old repairs celebrate its long, hard-working history in a European countryside kitchen. The interior wood surface is beautifully seasoned, boasting a deep, naturally dark amber-brown patina permanently cured by decades of authentic kitchen use.
Perfect for use as a striking dining table centerpiece, an architectural mantle accent, or a rustic vessel for displaying dried botanicals and textiles in a modern farmhouse, primitive country, or wabi-sabi eclectic interior.

The interior wood grain is beautifully seasoned, boasting a deep, naturally rich amber-brown coloration earned through decades of authentic kitchen labor. The hand-forged iron repair band on the left end, the iron cleat on the upper right rim, and the prominent sheet-metal corner patch are all firmly anchored, structurally stable, and securely locked into the wood. • Disclosures: The trough exhibits expected honest antique wear, surface scuffing, and deep wood checking/shrinkage splits from age. These natural splits are completely stabilized by the early metalwork repairs, which boast immense age, add incredible visual interest, and guarantee the long-term structural integrity of the piece. This specific primitive, hand-hewn style of solid hardwood dough trough with its angular, adze-carved slab sides and heavily riveted iron reinforcement plates indicates a continental European origin, most commonly tracing back to France, Germany, Sweden, or Eastern Europe. less
