Exceptional pair of antique French-style chenets, or fireplace andirons, dating approximately to the late 19th or early 20th century and displaying a spectacular combination of Louis XVI Revival, Neoclassical and Rococo/Rocaille influences.
At approximately 18 inches high, these substantial chenets are extraordinarily ornate. Each is centered by a tall, fluted classical column embellished with scrolling acanthus foliage and floral ornament, rising to an elaborate flame-form finial. The lower sections feature beautifully cast botanical and architectural details, musical-instrument motifs, scrollwork, floral elements and sculptural feet.
These are particularly impressive decorative chenets for a French château-inspired interior, traditional library, salon, formal living room or grand fireplace. Their sculptural character also makes them suitable for decorative display even when not being used with an active fire.

The chenets retain their highly decorative original appearance, with an attractive aged brass/bronze-colored surface and darker patination within the recesses that enhances the intricate relief. I could not find a makers mark, but believe them to be French. They will be shipped unassembled, but they each take only one large screw for assembly, which will be included. See photos for details. Please review all photographs carefully…as well as my descriptions, as they are considered part of the condition description. I also often include “Inspiration Photos” (some using AI). These photos may not show the exact item or proper scale, but rather created for inspirational purposes only. Staging items are not included in this sale. Thanks for visiting Fazzio & Tyler. less
