The chair has a sculptural, architectural presence, combining the robust character of carved oak with the warmth and patina of richly aged leather. The substantial oak frame is beautifully shaped throughout, with broad, gently curved arms terminating in distinctive carved spiral volutes. Subtle hand-carved botanical decoration adorns the upper arm supports, adding an organic Art Nouveau character to the otherwise strongly architectural form. The seat and back are executed in hand-worked saddle leather, now displaying a beautiful deep cognac-brown patina. Exposed leather straps and rows of large, hand-set metal studs emphasize the chair's equestrian influence and give the piece an especially tactile, handcrafted quality.
