Description
Beautiful pair of antique Chippendale Revival armchairs dating to the late 19th century, circa 1880 to 1900. These are substantial, beautifully made chairs with extensive hand carved detail throughout. Each chair has a shaped carved crest above an elaborate pierced splat with foliate decoration. The scrolling arms continue the carved detailing, while the fronts are supported by cabriole legs ending in classic ball and claw feet. Even the seat rails and knees have additional carved decoration.
The chairs are made in richly finished mahogany and have a great weight and presence to them. The removable drop in seats are upholstered in a light patterned fabric. This style of seat is also particularly easy to reupholster since the entire upholstered seat lifts directly out of the chair.
A really handsome matched pair that would work beautifully as dining host chairs, library chairs, desk chairs, or occasional seating.
Dimensions:
24.5" wide
24.5" deep

Condition
Good antique condition with age appropriate wear throughout. The wood frames are solid and sturdy with scattered small marks and finish wear from age and use. The existing upholstery has some staining and would benefit from cleaning or replacement. The removable seats make reupholstery a very straightforward project. Please see photos for details.
