A wonderfully aged American turned-wood mixing bowl with the simple, substantial form associated with traditional utilitarian woodenware.
Turned from a single piece of solid hardwood, likely maple, the bowl measures an impressive 13.5 inches in diameter and retains visible concentric turning and tool marks from its manufacture. Its broad, shallow form, thick rounded rim and beautifully timeworn surface give it considerable character.
Decades of use have produced a warm, naturally varied patina, including staining, surface marks and wear. Particularly interesting is the underside, where a natural check or inclusion in the wood has darkened over time, emphasizing the organic character of the original timber.
Unmarked, with maker unknown. Based on its construction and form, the bowl is believed to date to the early to mid-20th century. It has been left in its found condition rather than refinished, preserving the surface and evidence of its utilitarian past.
A handsome example of vintage American woodenware that would work beautifully as a large fruit bowl, tabletop centerpiece or decorative object in a collected, farmhouse, rustic or primitive interior.
Dimensions: 13.5” diameter × 3.5” H
