Its rich golden-yellow color was achieved by adding a mixture of sulfur and cadmium sulfide to the molten glass during the manufacturing process, creating a warm luminosity and exceptional depth of color. Produced in France between 1930 and 1935, the bowl is unsigned, as was common for many pieces from the period, yet it can be confidently attributed to Pierre D'Avesn, who was working with the renowned Daum glassworks at the time. Widely regarded as one of the leading figures of French Art Deco glassmaking, Pierre D'Avesn (1901–1990) began his career under René Lalique, with whom he collaborated for approximately ten years. During this period, he designed several celebrated works, including the famous Serpente and Tourbillons vases, now among the most sought-after creations by Lalique collectors. In 1926, he left Lalique's atelier to establish his own distinctive artistic identity. Between 1930 and 1936, he collaborated with Daum, where he played a significant role in advancing molded glass production, helping to achieve remarkable levels of clarity, brilliance, and precision in decorative relief. He later entrusted the production of his own designs to the Cristalleries de Saint-Rémy, firmly establishing his reputation as one of the foremost French glass designers of the twentieth century. Pierre D'Avesn passed away in 1990 at the age of ninety. Ideal as a centerpiece or decorative accent, this bowl is a refined example of French Art Deco design and will complement both traditional and contemporary interiors with timeless elegance.
