The generously proportioned … Read more Lovely artisan-made cabbageware bowl, hand formed and finished in richly variegated shades of green with umber highlights. The generously proportioned bowl features an organic, softly scalloped rim and an expressive molded leaf pattern radiating from the center, creating the appearance of an unfurled cabbage leaf. Four cylindrical feet slightly elevate the bowl from the tabletop to give it an unexpected lightness.

The surface has a painterly quality, with tonal variations ranging from pale celadon and fresh spring green to deeper forest green and subtle brownish accents that emphasize the relief of the leaves. The irregular form and hand-applied character give this piece an uniqueness which is a step up from mass-produced pieces. Signed & dated by the artist en verso, "RMJ 1973".

A wonderful decorative and functional accent for a country French, English garden, traditional, or eclectic interior. Beautiful displayed on a dining table, kitchen island, sideboard, or open shelving, and equally suited to serving or holding seasonal fruit.

Condition: Very good vintage condition for pottery enjoyed for more than 50 years! No cracks, no crazing, minimal wear. Rim chip (1/4"l) which doesn't detract from appearance and which could easily be concealed with artist/craft paint.
