A charming vintage Erzgebirge wooden Santa Claus nutcracker, made in the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany) circa 1980. This traditional Christmas figure is hand-painted in vivid red with white faux-fur trim, a natural fur beard and hair, black boots, and a green sack at his side.
Turned and assembled from wood in the traditional Erzgebirge manner, Santa has the wonderfully expressive face associated with vintage German nutcrackers: bright blue eyes, prominent nose, applied mustache, and the classic working lever construction at the back
At 14" tall, he has enough scale to stand alone on a mantel, console, bookcase, or holiday table and would also make a particularly appealing addition to a collection of vintage German Christmas figures.
