The sculptural composition features a seated romantic figure, likely representing a poet or scholar, positioned beside the drum-form clock movement—a subject characteristic of the literary and Romantic themes fashionable in early 19th-century French decorative arts.

The vivid natural figuring of the malachite provides a striking contrast to the elaborate gilt-bronze mounts and sculptural ornament, giving the clock a commanding architectural presence. An impressive example of 19th-century French decorative craftsmanship and a desirable candidate for professional restoration.
