Unlike the ubiquitous flat-backed seated spaniels, these figures are fully modeled, freestanding "four-square" quadrupeds depicting majestic collies. Each figure features expressive hand-painted details in a rich russet and cream palette, complete with molded feathering to the coat, prominent black muzzles, and their highly desirable original amber glass inset eyes. They wear molded, gilded collars adorned with matching lockets. Designed as true chimneypiece or console statement items, they carry the beautiful weight, dry unglazed bases, and small firing vent holes characteristic of authentic, premium press-molded Victorian pottery. A timeless addition to an English country house, traditional library, or eclectic mantle scheme. I love the character and age of these mantle dogs. See less

Consistent with antique earthenware of this age, there is a fine, uniform all-over glaze crazing (craquelure) and minor surface wear. One dog features an old, tight structural repair from a break across its back leg that faces the back. The repair is stable, structurally sound, and does not detract from the impressive presentation or decorative value of the pair when displayed on a mantel or shelf. Please review photos closely for full condition details. less
