A fabulous antique Quimper Porquier Beau French faience mantel clock featuring a hand painted Breton couple overlooking the River Odet with the St. Corentin Cathedral in the background. The enamel dial has Roman numeral hour hand markings, Arabic second hand markings, brass filigree hands, and a beaded brass lens frame. The clock dome is decorated with a gold fleur-de-Lys at the pinnacle surrounded by yellow and blue Decor Riche borders. Encircling the rectangular base is green and blue foliate relief decor which is anchored by the blason of Brittany at the center. Marked on the underside with the early overlapping PB initials, 32, and Depose. Circa 1875-1898.
In very good antique condition with a 1/4" shallow chip from the rear corner of the pediment cornice, an 1/8" camouflaged chip from the green foliate relief decor on the front of the base, an 8" self terminating hairline which wraps around the clocks back corner, a 1" self terminating hairline extending from the back door for the movement, minor glaze wear to several edges, and glaze pinholes originating from the production process (see photos). The clock has its original movement but the key is missing so the working condition is unknown.
