An original 1960s wall clock marked Gent of Leicester on the dial, left entirely untouched rather than restored. It still wears its original grey factory paint, and inside, its original Gents 30-second slave movement remains fitted exactly as it left the factory.
The dial reads Gent of Leicester rather than Gents of Leicester, a naming variation also seen across other clocks from the same maker, a documented, authentic detail rather than a cause for concern.
That movement is the reason clocks like this could hang, dozens at a time, throughout a single building and all show the exact same time. It had no timekeeping mechanism of its own, instead relying on a pulse sent every 30 seconds from a central master clock. Gents of Leicester, founded in 1872 by John Thomas Gent, supplied that technology to factories, offices, and public buildings across Britain for decades. Because this clock has been left as original as possible, it requires a pulse generator or master clock connection, not included, to keep time. A quartz conversion can be arranged on request before ordering.
The clock measures 24.5 cm in diameter and 6.5 cm in depth.
Suited to collectors who value the genuine, unaltered mechanism as much as the look. This piece has an attribution mark,
