What sets this one apart is the dial itself, a distinctive design carrying red 24-hour markings alongside the standard hours, with hands to match.

The dial reads Gent of Leicester rather than Gents of Leicester, a variation also found on other clocks from the same maker. It is not a different company; genuine vintage examples exist with both markings, and even specialist clock collectors have not settled on a firm explanation.

Gents of Leicester, founded in 1872 by John Thomas Gent, built the technology behind Britain's large-scale synchronized clock networks. This clock relied on a pulse every 30 seconds from a central master clock to advance its hands. That movement remains untouched, so the clock requires a pulse generator or master clock connection, not included, to run. A quartz conversion can be arranged on request before ordering.

The clock measures 24.5 cm in diameter and 6.5 cm in depth.
