Elegant pair of Italian armchairs by Fratelli Testolini, Venice, dating from the 1930s, finely crafted in walnut and characterized by an exceptionally decorative openwork back.
The design is distinguished by the sinuous construction of the backrest, formed by interlacing curved elements that create a refined double-loop motif. The fluid armrests, shaped apron and gently curved legs give the chairs a graceful profile, while the carved ornamental details are enhanced with gilt-leaf accents, creating a sophisticated contrast with the walnut structure.
The armchairs have been professionally restored and newly upholstered, respecting their original construction. The generous seats retain a traditional sprung interior, providing both comfort and the characteristic volume of period upholstered seating.
They are finished with a high-quality jacquard velvet upholstery, richly patterned in warm coral, ivory and gold tones, selected to complement the gilded details of the frames.
The combination of the sculptural openwork backs, elegant proportions and refined craftsmanship is representative of the high-quality decorative furniture produced by Fratelli Testolini in Venice during the interwar period.
Presented as a pair, these armchairs work particularly well as statement pieces in a living room, reception area, bedroom or sophisticated contemporary interior, where their distinctly Venetian decorative character can create an attractive contrast with modern furnishings.
Condition: Professionally restored. Newly upholstered in high-quality jacquard velvet. Traditional sprung seats. The gilt details have been carefully preserved and enhanced. Minor variations and traces consistent with age and the handcrafted nature of the pieces should be considered part of their historical character.
