Likely made in the late-Victorian era circa 1890, this impressively sculptural Windsor chair will enhance any interior with bygone quality, sculptural elegance, gorgeous colouring and Country House grandeur.

Impressively sized, reassuringly heavy and very comfortable, this strikingly attractive Windsor armchair is crafted from gorgeous ruddy-toned mahogany displaying wonderfully ornate craftsmanship detailing throughout. It has a generously sized single piece saddle-sculpted seat, which is stamped to the underside and into which the arms, legs and back spindles all fit, as with all Windsor chairs.

Based on the ornate Georgian stylings of the early Thames Valley Windsor chairs, this super armchair is both a ‘fan-back’ and a ‘comb back’ Windsor. It has a shapely crest rail above attractively turned back spindles, which are splayed into a ‘fan’ position, whilst also having an extra tier or ‘comb’ bar across the back which bisects and strengthens the superbly shapely spindles.

The central eye-catching fretwork-carved back splat adds super decorative charm, while the curved arms have lovely scroll-carved hand rests and are set on delightful arched arm supports, which all enable this superb Windsor to cast a striking silhouette when viewed from any angle. Set on impressively shapely cabriole front legs terminating in lovely pad feet, it has notable and intricately-turned rear legs with a matching H-stretcher.

All in all this is a fantastic Windsor armchair, which won’t fail to impress in any setting and will add striking bygone quality, super colouring and an aesthetic of sophisticated grandeur to any setting.

CONDITION
This super chair is in very good antique condition. Structurally sound and sturdy, it shows to-be-expected minor nicks and signs of wear and has hard-to-notice signs of a good historical repair to the central ‘comb’ back bar where the arms meet. Overall it's a stunning chair, extremely rare and in lovely antique condition and if well looked after it should be just as impressive for generations to come - please see the photos.
