Blue Danube by Blue Danube Japan
10 3/8" Dinner Plate
Original Japanese Blue Onion Design*
Classic white and blue porcelain
The pattern, first produced in 1951, is a Japanese-made imitation of the traditional Chinese and German "Blue Onion" motif.
It features intricate blue floral motifs, including asters, chrysanthemums, peonies, and winding stems around a bamboo stalk, set against a white porcelain background. The design is known for its classic, mid-century modern aesthetic and is a popular collectible.
*The pattern's name comes from European painters mistaking pomegranates in the original Chinese pattern for onions.
