The open balloon-form back features an elaborate carved foliate crest with a small pierced opening at its center, complemented by a scrolling carved horizontal splat below. A serpentine seat rail and gently curved cabriole front legs continue the chair’s distinctly Victorian silhouette.

The generously padded seat has been later upholstered in a handsome deep teal and cream botanical textile, finished with individual antiqued brass nailhead trim. The updated upholstery provides a striking contrast to the rich, dark wood while making the chair immediately usable.

At only 34 inches high, this is an especially versatile antique chair—substantial enough for comfortable seating while compact enough for a bedroom, dressing table, writing desk, entry, living room or as an occasional dining chair.

Condition: Good antique condition with age-appropriate wear to the wood and finish, including scattered scratches, small marks and surface variation consistent with approximately 160 years of use. Later upholstery presents well. Please refer to photographs for additional condition details.
