An antique Edwardian English Set of porcelain dinner plates by Coalport.
The plates feature an elaborate Chinoiserie-inspired garden scene populated by exotic birds, peonies and flowering branches in saturated shades of rose pink, turquoise, cobalt blue and green. An intricate ochre-gold border and deep cobalt edge beautifully frame the central decoration.
The exuberant pattern is unmistakably traditional yet feels remarkably fresh when mixed with contemporary linens and glassware. An especially handsome set for entertaining, a holiday table or a collected maximalist interior. Late 19th C/Early 20th.
Each plate bears the Coalport crown backstamp reading “England/ Coalport / A.D. 1750” along with the pattern/decorator number 6654/T.
