Vessels of this type were crafted in Italian regions known for olive cultivation, such as Liguria, Tuscany, or Southern Italy. This jar bears three impressed seals, including the *fleur-de-lis* emblem characteristic of the Tuscan region. Historically, these large jars were used for storing and transporting olive oil.

The vessel features a classic ovoid shape, swelling at the center and tapering towards both the base and the rim. The upper rim is distinguished by a glossy glazed finish; historically, this glaze served to prevent liquids from seeping through the porous terracotta and to keep insects out. The main body is made of raw, light beige terracotta with an almost sandy texture. The surface is irregular, displaying clear signs of artisanal craftsmanship as well as the imperfections and minor flaws typical of handmade objects.

The vessel is in good condition and retains a distinctive patina, featuring surface color variations resulting from exposure to the elements and the material's natural aging process.

with its historical appeal, this vessel makes an excellent decorative garden piece, serving perfectly either as a standalone ornamental sculpture or as a large planter. See less
