This is a handmade gray pottery pedestal-bowl with loop handles, pierced pedestal base, and is most likely a 20th century reproduction of 5/6th Century Korean ceramic from the Silla Kingdom. The character at the base is thought to read 栛, which means "harmony bearer". This is a very interesting piece, like an original piece in the Met Museum in New York City.
During the 20th century Mingei (folk craft) movement, master potters closely studied and emulated the rustic, unglazed textures of ancient Silla stonewares such as this vintage and highly collectable piece.
It measures 6 inches high and a slightly oval diameter of 6.5 - 7 inches, going to 9 inches overall with the handles.
