This antique 1920s industrial AdLake locomotive signal lamp features three 5.375-inch Fresnel lenses.
It’s a genuine “classification lamp” made by the iconic Adams & Westlake Company, known informally as Adlake.
Originally mounted on steam or an early diesel locomotive, it was used to communicate train status to rail workers along the line.
Crafted from heavy-duty steel, it retains its original clear Fresnel glass lens with concentric stepped ridges designed to project light intensely. Also, present are remnants of the mechanism that dropped internal colored glass panels behind the lens, allowing crews to switch the signal beam from white to red or green.
