The candle holder dates circa late 19th / early 20th century and was likely made in the United Kingdom. During the Victorian era, English potteries were deeply influenced by Asian ceramics, liberally borrowing their forms and silhouettes while developing their own experimental glaze techniques to achieve unique iridescent metallic lustre finishes. The base bears impressed numbers 82 / 11 with a hand-painted 1., measuring 7.75 in. height x 4.5 in. wide (at base). Very good condition with scattered areas of crazing and a small hole in the base.
