Each lantern is constructed with a cylindrical brass and copper body, steel, copper and brass fittings, glass lens, protective wire guard, pierced lower draft vents, domed ventilated cap, and overhead bail handle.

These lanterns were made in the practical tradition of shipboard and dockside lighting, where durability, visibility, and protection from wind were essential. The cylindrical glass chambers are enclosed by heavy wire guards, while the perforated bases and vented caps allowed airflow around the flame. The combination of copper, brass, and patinated metal gives the group a strong maritime character, with surfaces that retain the visual depth associated with working nautical equipment.
