The Morgan Silver Dollar is one of America’s most iconic coins, first minted in 1878 and named after its designer, George T. Morgan. Made of 90% silver and 10% copper, it was created to help use the large amounts of silver mined in the American West. The coin features a bold profile of Lady Liberty on the front and a majestic eagle with outstretched wings on the back. Morgan Dollars were struck at several U.S. mints, including Philadelphia (no mark), New Orleans (O), San Francisco (S), Carson City (CC), and Denver (D). Production ended in 1904 due to silver shortages, with one final run in 1921 before being replaced by the Peace Dollar.
