This remarkable early 20th-century fan combines French decorative craftsmanship with New York resort and hospitality history. Its printed paper leaf depicts an elaborate Rococo-inspired pastoral scene with elegantly dressed figures in a garden setting, surrounded by architectural and foliate ornament.

The fan is constructed with carved natural bone sticks and guards embellished with raised floral motifs, polychrome decoration and gilt-toned detailing. The reverse is also decorated and bears the original “The Harbor Inn, Rockaway Park, New York” identification together with the Maquet name and Paris address.

Maquet was a prestigious Parisian engraver, printer and luxury stationer known for producing sophisticated advertising fans for prominent establishments during the Belle Époque and early 20th century.

An unusual surviving piece of antique advertising ephemera with a particularly desirable Paris–New York connection, combining Maquet, Rockaway history, period advertising and decorative fan collecting. Original brass suspension loop remains attached.
