Lithophanes were created by molding translucent porcelain to varying thickness, so the image only fully resolves when backlit — thinner areas glow bright, thicker areas stay in shadow, producing a striking three-dimensional effect (see photos front-lit and backlit). Housed in a carved giltwood frame in the Florentine style, featuring a repeating scalloped arch motif and black velvet inner trim. Frame measures 17"H x 15"W. Wire-hung for wall display.

Condition: Minor gilt loss to one small area of the carved edge detail (see photos), otherwise excellent — no cracks or chips to the frame, no damage to the porcelain lithophane panel itself. See less
