Originally made for a devotional statue, probably a Virgin Mary, Child Jesus or crowned saint. The crown is entirely hand carved and decorated with red, green and gilt elements imitating gemstones.

The underside is hollowed by hand and clearly reveals the traditional carved construction. The surface retains a beautiful old patina with wear, losses to gilding and polychromy, small chips, cracks and old insect holes, all consistent with its age.
