The avian species portrayed … Read more Lovely set of porcelain plates decorated with six different images of game birds by Edwin Magargee. The avian species portrayed are Partridge, Plover, Ruffled Grouse, Sand Piper, Teal Duck, and Woodcocks. Porcelain plates feature a white ground with raised laurel leaf border. Each plate has an imprint on the reverse that reads "Theodore Haviland New York Made in America" plus the species portrayed. Indicating that this set was produced in their New Castle, Pennsylvania factory between 1937 - 1955.

Edwin Megargee (1883 - 1953) was a noted avian and animal painter/illustrator in the tradition of Audubon. A noted expert, author, and illustrator of dogs - he served for many years as the Chairman of the Library Committee for the American Kennel Club.

Each plate measures 9" diameter x .75" high.

All six are in excellent vintage condition. Appear to have never been used. No utensil marks, chips, cracks, scratches, image loss, or issues of note. See photos for details See less
