Measuring approximately 7 inches in diameter, the plate features an expressive fruit composition of richly colored red, blush and pale green grapes surrounded by softly modeled green foliage. The background transitions through warm cream, yellow, blush, green and blue tones, creating an almost watercolor-like effect. A fine gold-painted rim completes the design.

The reverse bears the Haviland France factory backstamp as well as the hand-painted signature “Wolcott,” identifying the individual china painter/decorator.

Haviland porcelain blanks were frequently selected for the art of china painting during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with accomplished painters creating one-of-a-kind decorative pieces. The visible brushwork and artist signature distinguish this example from factory-decorated Haviland dinnerware.

An especially attractive piece for a collection of antique Haviland, artist-painted porcelain or turn-of-the-century decorative arts. Its scale also makes it ideal as a cabinet plate or incorporated into a curated porcelain wall display.
