Traditional English mantel dogs were made in the late 1800s and painted by hand by women who worked in their homes by the piece. Consequently there is usually slight variation in any two dogs. Their 100+ year age has left them with soft crazing and minor flaws that date them with beautiful patina. These were acquired in the UK recently.
