A distinctive pair of vintage Maitland-Smith oval nightstands or bedside chests dating to 1994, beautifully finished in the company’s Mirage Leather.
Each chest features a softly rounded oval silhouette with three curved drawers, sculptural metal pulls, and an incised decorative border around the top. The Mirage Leather has a richly antiqued appearance with intentional craquelure, tonal variation and distressed detailing throughout, giving the pieces the character of beautifully aged leather.
What makes this pair particularly special is the surviving original Maitland-Smith documentation and receipt from 1994. The paperwork identifies the design as the Oval Ruon Table, model 8331-431, in Mirage Leather, dated June 23, 1994, and shows an original price of $1,631 per table.
At 30 inches wide and 28 inches high, these are substantial enough to function beautifully as bedside chests while also working as sophisticated end tables in a living room or library.
