A pair of early 20th century Louis XV style painted bergère armchairs featuring carved hardwood frames, cabriole legs, serpentine aprons, floral crest and apron carvings, upholstered backs and loose down-filled seat cushions. The frames are finished in soft white with subtle yellow-gold highlights that complement the ivory and golden-yellow patterned upholstery.
Gracefully shaped open arms, padded armrests and generous down cushions make these comfortable as well as decorative. The carved floral details and softly distressed painted finish give the pair an easy French Country character without feeling overly formal. Well suited to a bedroom, sitting room, living room or fireside arrangement, they would also make an inviting pair of occasional chairs flanking a small table.
JUNE'S THOUGHTS
What I like most about these chairs is that they add a little French character without taking over the room. The graceful curves and carved details are there, but they’re softened by the painted finish and simple upholstery. They have personality, but they’re easy to live with—and sometimes that is exactly what a room needs.
