Two bowls, two different forms, joined by the same rich, dark iron glaze. The wider, shallower bowl carries warm rust and copper tones pooling near the rim against a near-black ground, while the smaller, more conical one shows a subtle blue-violet iridescent sheen within its dark glaze, the kind of atmospheric variation that comes from how the glaze moves and breaks during firing rather than anything applied by brush. Both sit on a generous unglazed footring, the exposed reddish-tan stoneware body a nice contrast to the glassy dark glaze above it, and both share the visual vocabulary of tenmoku ware, the dark iron-glazed stoneware tradition that runs from Jian kiln production in China through its long adoption into Japanese tea culture.
This pair reads as vintage studio work in that tradition with real depth in the glaze. Grouped together on a shelf or tray, or used individually for tea, rice, or a small serving, the differing sizes and glaze effects make them an interesting pairing rather than a repeated pattern.
