The handkerchief shape (fazzoletto) represents a signature form developed by Murano glassmakers in the mid 20th century. The technique involves shaping molten glass into a draped, fabric-like form while still hot, creating the characteristic ruffled rim that resembles a handkerchief. The red rim which adds drama to the piece of glass is popularized by Dave Chihuly. The bright cobalt blue body with ridges running from the middle towards the base has pieces of millefiori filling the blue body along with other color streaks of glass conforming to the ruffled form, thus creating movement on the vase. The base color of the interior of the vase is white with streaks of blue radiating around the surfaces like pieces of clouds. The bottom is wide showing the pontil. The artist etched his name along with rim. The first name is Golovan, and the last name cannot be read. The date is 2010. See less
