A magnificent example of 19th-century French decorative arts, this elegant covered compote combines richly colored deep raspberry/burgundy porcelain, delicate hand-painted pastoral scenes, intricate gilt decoration, and an elaborate gilt-bronze ormolu mount.

The domed cover features beautifully painted romantic landscape and figural scenes, framed by finely executed gilded scrollwork and foliate ornament. The elaborate pierced bronze gallery, graceful handles, figural feet, and ornate finial create an exceptionally luxurious presentation.

The interior of the porcelain bowl is decorated with delicate floral painting, continuing the refined decorative treatment throughout the piece.

The underside bears a “FRANCE” inscription along with a decorative porcelain mark, adding to the French attribution.
