The plates date … Read more These plates depict Rakan and dragon subject, which is characteristic of Japanese Satsuma in the Meiji period. The plates date approximately from 1868-1912. They are in very good condition considering their age. The dishes have a matte black background with several characteristic Japanese figures. A calm woman is surrounded by 5 angry men who are all intertwined by a dragon. The plates are decorated with hand-painted enamels and extensive gold gilt with finely painted figures and Japanese landscape. The backs of the plates are signed with gold-on-brown artist/workshop cartouche. See less
