This Spanish Colonial Revival Savonarola chair is hand-carved from tropical Tornillo wood and features a large floral medallion, bullseye medallion, and a tooled leather seat fastened with brass studs. The arms terminate in large, expressive lion's heads, and the carving on the arms imitates the scrollwork in the leather tooling. We love the visual weight this chair provides with its thick wood frame and large-scale carving. Combined with the expressive lion's faces, it brings a theatrical element to a room. Made in Peru by a third-generation family of woodworkers and leather embossers.
The original varnish or shellac is lifting and crackling in several areas. Please review the last four images and the condition notes to see this age and wear.

The leather is in excellent condition but lightly faded along the sides. The original shellac or varnish finish is crackling and lifting on the tops and sides of the arms, the lion's faces, the round medallion on the seat back, and the back of the chair.
