The clear crystal … Read more A late twentieth-century Saint-Louis Cristallerie Thistle Gold ice bucket, mouth-blown and hand-cut at Saint-Louis-lès-Bitche in Moselle, France. The clear crystal vessel is distinguished by its paired applied loop handles, vertical cutting and richly worked ornamental frieze in 24-carat gold.

The Thistle design derives from Saint-Louis's historic Chardon service of circa 1908–1909 and was established under the Thistle name in 1913. Its elaborate gilt decoration, bevel cutting and Venetian-inspired detailing give the form the refined character associated with Saint-Louis French luxury crystal, while the smaller six-inch proportions distinguish this vintage ice-bucket format from larger champagne-bucket forms.

The crystal remains exceptionally well presented, with no chips or cracks. Approximately five tiny faint surface scratches are visible on one side and are noted for accuracy. The combination of substantial crystal construction, applied handles and extensive 24-carat gold decoration gives the piece considerable presence for barware, table service or display.
