This museum-quality piece represents the refined classical court dance-theater tradition (Topeng) of Java. The mask features a beautifully rendered, expressive character face adorned with traditional gilded accents, carved mustache, and distinctively painted facial details.
The reverse showcases authentic, deep hand-chiseled wood execution with a dark, natural age patina and original string mounting. The physical wear, micro-cracking in the polychrome, and delicate gilding losses reflect genuine ritual use and historical age.
