A wonderfully versatile piece of Danish design that functions as bookcase, bar, and writing desk in one sculptural form. This two-piece cabinet was designed by Poul Hundevad and bears the manufacturer's oval "Danish Furnituremakers' Control, Made in Denmark" stamp to the interior, confirming authenticity and quality of construction.
The upper hutch combines open, adjustable-shelf bookcase storage on the left with a compartmentalized cubby system on the right, ideal for records, stationery, or display objects. Below sits a locking drop-front desk: the teak door releases to form a flat writing surface, revealing a fitted interior of small drawers and vertical document slots finished in contrasting teak and rosewood-toned veneers. Behind the desk's lower lip, a custom-fitted spacer piece closes the gap left when the desktop is lowered; it is not structural and simply lifts out when the desk is in use.
The lower cabinet is fitted with a pair of hinged teak doors with working lock and key, opening to reveal a mix of adjustable shelving and three pull-out, dovetailed maple trays lined in green felt, ideal for flatware, barware, or valuables. Case construction throughout is generous and honest, with visible dovetail joinery on the drawers and a solid, boxy plinth base typical of Hundevad's work from this period.
Condition: this piece is in good condition overall with minor touch-ups. There is one small dent to a door face. The top of the lower cabinet shows a dark spot where a smaller hutch element previously sat; as the upper hutch sits directly over this area in normal use, it is not visible once the two pieces are stacked. There are also light scratches to the lower cabinet, concealed beneath the upper section once assembled.
