A charming pair of vintage French Provincial side chairs featuring sculptural interlocking ribbon—or “pretzel”—backs and graceful cabriole legs.
The warm walnut-toned wood frames feature molded edges, delicate carved accents and shaped seat rails. Coral-red and cream floral upholstery covers the generously padded seats and is finished with coordinating self-welting and brass-tone nailheads. The upholstery date is unknown and may not be original to the chairs.
Dating from approximately the 1950s–1960s, these chairs offer a wonderfully decorative silhouette. Their compact proportions make them suitable as dining chairs, occasional seating, bedroom chairs or an elegant pair flanking a console.
No maker’s mark was found. Sold as a pair.
