Sculptural … Read more A striking matching pair of original Burris Industries lounge chairs, manufactured in 1986–1987 and preserved in exceptional vintage condition. Sculptural and deeply enveloping, the chairs feature a distinctive Postmodern clam-shell silhouette with generously cushioned frames, a grounded stationary block base, and dramatic heavy ruching along the inner seat and backrest.

Upholstered in the original top-grain leather, the chairs retain their period-authentic dusty mauve / muted pink color and an exceptionally supple surface. The softly saturated tone gives the substantial forms a sophisticated presence, balancing the boldness of their 1980s silhouette with an unexpectedly elegant palette.

The architectural profile places these chairs firmly within the vocabulary of 1980s Postmodern and Art Deco Revival design, with a sculptural quality reminiscent of the work of Milo Baughman, Vladimir Kagan, and Saporiti. They are not attributed to those designers, but offer a similar emphasis on dramatic geometry, generous upholstery, and furniture as architectural form.
