A striking vintage Neoclassical plume-back accent chair featuring an elaborate pierced oval back centered by a dramatic stylized feather or plume motif tied with a sculptural ribbon bow. The dark-finished frame is richly embellished with hand-painted floral and foliate decoration in muted shades of green, blue, rose, gold, and rust.
The decorative painting continues onto the slender tapered front legs, giving the chair exceptional visual interest from top to bottom. The seat has been newly reupholstered in a textured neutral fabric with contrasting rust/coral piping and traditional nailhead detailing.
The quality of construction and decorative treatment is reminiscent of high-end American furniture produced by makers such as Karges and White Furniture Company. However, no maker’s label or identifying mark has been located, and the chair is therefore being offered as unattributed.
