The dogs are modeled … Read more A charming antique pair of porcelain pug dog figurines, each seated on a cobalt blue base. The dogs are modeled with expressive upturned faces and tightly curled tails and are hand-painted with black markings against white bodies.
Each pug wears a gilt collar with stud detailing, a gilt pendant, and a decorative gilt rosette at the back. Fine red enamel lines define the mouths. The blue bases provide a striking contrast to the black-and-white decoration.
The figures were made in the manner of 18th-century Chelsea porcelain dogs. Small in scale and full of character, the pair displays particularly well together on a mantel, bookshelf or tabletop and would make an appealing addition to a collection of antique porcelain, dog figurines or animal figures.
