The shallow rectangular basin stands on small integral feet, while a series of parallel grooves cut deliberately into one side likely provided the friction needed for washing and scrubbing cloth. Basin and washboard, carved as one.

Such vessels belong to a centuries-old domestic tradition found throughout Mexico and the American Southwest, where Indigenous and Hispano methods, materials, and forms often crossed paths. Precisely who made this one may remain unknowable, which is part of its appeal.
