An exceptionally scarce vintage high-fire studio stoneware (gres) wall clock handcrafted by acclaimed ceramic artist Ken Edwards in Tonalá, Jalisco, Mexico, circa late 1970s to 1980s. Authentic vintage working clocks in this smaller 7.0-inch form are virtually impossible to find on the secondary market.
Edwards famously revolutionized Tonalá ceramics by blending traditional Mexican folk iconography with Japanese high-fire stoneware techniques. The face of this clock features classic hand-painted regional folk art motifs: two opposing blue songbirds nestled in foliage beneath a soaring butterfly and delicate floral plumes, framed by teardrop borders and Roman numeral hour markers on a speckled oatmeal ground.
The reverse bears the authentic Ken Edwards circled “KE” hallmark, "Mexico," and the individual artisan decorator’s cipher, along with an integral pierced hanging loop thrown into the wet clay prior to firing.
Fitted with a quality battery-operated quartz movement (requires one standard AA battery, not included) featuring black hands and a red second hand. Fully tested, running smoothly, quietly, and keeping accurate time.
Condition
Excellent vintage working condition. The glazed stoneware surface is clean, lustrous, and completely free of chips, cracks, crazing, fleabites, or repairs.
