An absolutely rare collector's item of unparalleled elegance!
a remarkable set of eight fine earthenware presentation plates, decorated in a japanese style, produced by the renowned english manufacturer brownfield & sons (cobridge, staffordshire) during the victorian period (circa 1876–1891). Named "texas," this pattern embodies the refined aesthetic of the british aesthetic movement. The asymmetrical composition combines the precision of a brown transfer print with rich polychrome highlights applied by hand: shades of cobalt blue, leafy green, and sepia tones. The design is accentuated by a peripheral geometric brown frieze and a brown rim.
the brownfield & sons factory
founded in staffordshire (the historical heartland of english ceramics), brownfield is one of the leading names in 19th-century victorian tableware.
the company closed its doors permanently in 1900.
technical quality: the factory was renowned for the durability of its hard-paste earthenware and the excellence of its printed decorations.
international influence: their pieces were awarded prizes at major world's fairs (notably london and chicago) and were even sold by the famous tiffany & co. In the united states.
during the 1870s and 1880s (the period of their plates), brownfield excelled in the aesthetic movement, characterized by asymmetrical botanical motifs and very elegant japonisme influences. This piece has an attribution mark,
